Beginning February 2022, first-time commercial driver’s license (CDL) applicants can anticipate mandatory driver training that includes Entry-level Driver Training Theory courses and Entry-level Public Road and Range Training (Behind-the-Wheel)—all available through CES!

This 40-hour online course is designed to fulfill all theory (knowledge) requirements outlined in the federal regulation 49 CFR Part 380, Special Training Requirements. It includes sections on Basic Operation, Safe Operating Procedures, Advanced Operating Practices, Vehicle Systems, Reporting Malfunctions, and Non-Driving Activities, making it an essential component of comprehensive CDL courses for those pursuing a commercial driver's license and effective driver training.

This behind-the-wheel driver training and observation course is intended for students with prior experience operating a tractor-trailer. To qualify for this CDL course, students must be capable of safely performing backing and driving maneuvers. This course also serves as refresher training to prepare for successfully completing the commercial driver's license exam.
This driver training includes behind-the-wheel and observation components designed for students who previously held a commercial driver's license (CDL) or possess substantial experience operating a tractor-trailer. To qualify for this CDL course, students must demonstrate their ability to safely and effectively execute all backing and driving maneuvers. This refresher training primarily emphasizes pre-trip inspection to ensure students are well-prepared to successfully pass the commercial driver’s license exam.

- Pre-Trip Instruction, Stop/Start, Couple/Uncouple: Practical sessions are offered to teach students about pre-trip inspections, stopping and starting procedures, as well as proper coupling and uncoupling techniques.
- Basic Preventative Maintenance, Tire Chain Installation, Mirror Adjustment: Students learn essential vehicle maintenance, including tire chain installation for adverse weather conditions and proper mirror adjustment for optimal visibility as part of their driver training.
- Backing Instructions: Our curriculum includes comprehensive guidance on various backing maneuvers, such as straight line, offset, 90-degree alley docking, and parallel parking, crucial for obtaining a commercial driver's license.
- Driving Instructions: Participants receive detailed training on upshifting, downshifting, in-town and traffic driving, entering and exiting freeway ramps, as well as navigating serpentine roads, all integral to our CDL courses.
To enroll in CDL courses, applicants must be at least 18 years old. Drivers aged 18–20 can operate commercial vehicles only within their state (intrastate). A commercial driver's license is required for drivers 21 or older who wish to operate in interstate commerce. Additionally, you must hold a valid and current driver’s license within the United States. A valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate confirming acceptable vision and overall health is required, along with successfully passing a DOT drug screening. Candidates must also pass the Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) exam at the DMV before beginning driver training, and they must be able to speak, read, and write English at a level mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (§391 FMCSR). Furthermore, you should be a US citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the United States and possess an understanding of highway traffic signs and signals, demonstrating the basic knowledge necessary to safely operate a commercial vehicle.
